The 250R FourStroke engine puts out 250 horsepower at the propeller shaft. The powerful V-8 engine boasts 53% more displacement and up to 40% more low-end torque overall than the legendary 2-stroke 250XS it replaces. Developed and built in-house, the naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V-8 borrows the Quad Cam Four Valve (QC4) technology of Mercury Racing's inboard-outboard engine DNA – with aluminum 4-valve heads and double overhead camshafts (DOHC). The above heads and dual overhead camshafts per cylinder bank are integrated with Mercury's proprietary block design and accompanying high performance equipment.
